Group (G)I-DLE (Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua) broke the US Radio barrier with their new song ‘Nxde’

(G)I-DLE’s 5th mini album “I love” released on October 17 and the title track “Nxde” made it’s official airplay debut on popular radio station 99.7 NOW FM in San Francisco at 8:40 p.m. on the 18th (local time).

Existing K-pop idols who had radio airplay made their debut with an English version of their song. On the other hand, (G)I-DLE debuted on the radio with a title song centered on Korean lyrics for the first time in a Korean girl group.

“The moment I listened to the music, I wanted to let the listeners hear it quickly,” said Jazzy Jim Archer of 99.7 Station. “It’s probably the first time I’ve played a non-English and non-Latin song on the radio,” he said.

“I want to invite (G)I-DLE to the broadcasting station as soon as possible and meet them in person.” “They will show a good performance in the conservative radio media and overcome the barriers,” he said.

“Nxde’s radio debut is very historic,” said U.S. music industry officials. “It can be seen as proving once again that language is not a barrier to K-pop’s entry into the global market,” they said praising (G)I-DLE’s radio debut.

Thanks for sharing this. This is really cool especially since I do live in San Francisco also and would’ve never expected this. Glad to see that the barriers are opening up more. Would be cool if (G) I-DLE comes to the radio show.

I don’t understand how this is possible when BP has already had radio play with korean tracks? Is it because gidle isnt signed to a US label?
