.) I believe most of us here in the community would agree with me when I say that this is TWICE's most iconic Japanese title track and one of the best J-Pop songs to ever exist in Japan, which impressively, sung by a K-Pop artist too.

.) The song for sure belongs to one of the perfect representations of TWICE's cutesy and fluffy sound they used to do often back in the days. You can almost imagine it that the song could also be as their Korean title track because of its bubblegum pop nature.

.) Interestingly, the song was produced by the pairing of Mayu Wakisaka who is mostly known for collaborating with TWICE on their Japanese releases and Collapsedone who is also known as the composer behind most of TWICE's korean title tracks throughout the years. I always see the duo JYP-Collapsedone being involved to TWICE's lead tracks, that's why I was kinda amazed to learn that the two led the production this time. Would love to see future works for TWICE featuring both of them together.

.) The opening of the song gave me more video game vibes which is what shocked me when I saw the MV few years ago that the concept is rather going to be in anime style. I then hit myself in the head because ha! c'mon it's freaking Japan, ofcourse anime would be highly regarded as one of its wonders when you think of it.

.) The song does lowkey go upbeat even though the sound actually doesn't go that hard, and that helps us tell that they really did a great job constructing the flow and structure of the song to make it catchy to listen. It was a smooth flow to be honest, the build up from the beginning then rises up at the chorus then we go down a little bit until it goes up again on the second chorus and it goes like that to the end.

.) The chorus is so good that even famous western artist names like Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello had their attentions got hooked and vibed along with it.

.) Hearing the bridge part led by Mina while in headphones or earphones in full volume sent CHILLS through my skin. Her heavenly and soft vocals made me feel like my body is slowly floating in the air. Oh and also, one of TWICE's best bridges of all time for sure.

.) The music video is also one of my favorites. It has a perfect balance of storyline, CGI, and animation all in one. None of it distracts more, and you won't get lost to intepret what is happening throughout the MV. It's simply about a girl being lonely inside her house and she decided to watch TV, and then we get to see that she's watching an anime featuring TWICE as the characters. There's a breaking the 4th wall thingie happening here in which the girls saw the kid being sad and that made them go on a mission and a journey to cheer up the kid (ba dum tss) with the help of JYP himself looking like Brock from Pokemon. This is also like his longest screentime being a cameo in TWICE MVs.

.) Funny how Sana has that pink colored wig through the scenes but when it comes for the dance choreography, you can see her with her real hairstyle lol. She looks so cute with that hair btw and it did made her look like an anime character.

.) Lastly, the animation of this MV rocks! I did made some research and found out that JYP himself was the one who wrote the storyline, Chaeyoung helped a bit on creating some of the characters, and the director of the MV is known also as an anime series director and his creation has what made him use it as inspiration to do Candy Pop's MV. That part when the members transformed into their actual appearances while at the same time still moving like 2D characters and how they blended in to the candyland world and also how they got united with the girl watching the TV in the end was brilliant.

BONUS ADDITION: I can't disregard some of the achievements that Candy Pop also received throughout its release. It's currently the most viewed music video in TWICE's Japan Youtube Channel, became no. 1 on Billboard Japan Hot 100, received a Platinum and Gold certificate from RIAJ, and won Song Of The Year in 2019 Japan Gold Disc Awards.

  1. I appreciate the analysis! Candy Pop is a great example of how Twice can do cute Bubblegum Pop without losing the excitement and sincerity of their music. BDZ as a whole is an exceptionally produced album. It’s sugary sweet yet high energy and upbeat when it needs to be. One More Time and Wake Me Up are good examples of that. Same with Say It Again, a super underrated song. BDZ has an addictive chorus. I appreciate how unapologetic the album is in its Bubblegum presention. I’d go as far as to say it’s one of Twice’s best albums.
