I was inspired by saehee’s post ([https://www.tiktok.com/@sa3h33/video/7288904458279341358?is\_from\_webapp=1&sender\_device=pc&web\_id=7276239729179346474](https://www.tiktok.com/@sa3h33/video/7288904458279341358?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7276239729179346474)). Her picks were HOME, Dis-ease, and Paradise. It got me thinking, and I didn’t see many posts like this in the last year (some posts related to which variety clips, music videos, things like that).

My picks would be…

1. HOME: It’s one of my favorite BTS songs, and I think it shows off their vocals, rap, lyricism, and is overall a complete bop!
2. MIC Drop: I would want to show some of the more gritty or hip-hop oriented music, and I think this is relatively approachable to American culture compared to a No More Dream or Boy In Luv.
3. Make It Right: (I’m biased toward this one because I walked down the aisle to an instrumental of it at my wedding, but) I think it’s great to introduce people to BTS because it is so heartfelt and catchy in a less upbeat way than HOME without being gloomy.

What are your thoughts?

Mic Drop (Aoki mix). ON. Dionysus. (I want to say Not Today, as my fave, but it’s not a song that would turn people)

  2. Run BTS! (Honestly with the dance practice it is just a highlight of everything that they can do a show-off)

Black Swan: this is the song that pulled me in-would like to see some faces like mine realising it is BTS, lol

Mic-Drop: it just a banger still

  3. I loved her post, and I definitely feel like being prepared with 3 songs to play to a non-kpop fan is so useful. I’ve previously panicked when asked to play BTS and put on Outro: Tear. 😂 I mean, that song is incredible but it’s definitely way too hard for a normie to take in. So here are my considered picks:

    1. Life Goes On: I put this on my playlist and listened to it a lot before I even knew their names. I think it has a beautiful emotional build up that just sweeps you up. It’s well balanced in terms of vocals and rap. The rap isn’t “aggressive” so it wouldn’t put off someone not used to listening to it.

    2. Boy With Luv: I think this is a perfect song to show the more “pop” side of BTS. It’s so catchy and fun, has an English bit you can sing along to. Also if the imaginary friend were to look up lyrics I think they would be surprised and it would showcase the beautiful lyricism of BTS.

    3. Fake Love: I know saehee said that this is too much for a normie on first listen and she’s probably right 😂 I haven’t been successful in making any armies yet so maybe my judgement is off. BUT. I still feel like if they’re interested in kpop then they should get a real taste. Fake Love is a perfect example of why I love kpop. The drama, the interesting beats, the concepts. So I think this would be my pick although maybe it’s “too much”.

Side note: while writing this I took a walk down memory lane to my Spotify likes from when I became an army and noticed that the first solo songs I added were Hope World and Serendipity. Apparently my biases were already set in stone from the beginning. 🥹💜

  4. omg I love this kind of questions 🥹

    my choices would be:

    – Paradise: as soon as I heard this song it became a favorite (jk in the intro is just damn addictive), its chill but still poweful. rap is so melodic and vocals just shine.

    – Black Swan: you can hear this song and also imagine a whole mystic, dark scenario in your head. you can literally feel this song.

    – Mic Drop (Aoki Remix): its impossible to not get into the beat and bounce your head to it. lyrics go so hard it will definitely make you feel at the top.

if they’re into it, I would show them Fake Love, Jamais Vu and Tomorrow next.

  5. Living-Suit-7389 on

I have a friend who only knew BTS through their popular English trilogy was being judgemental with it. Then I introduced her to Mic Drop, ON and Run BTS and it got her hooked.

  6. Eastern-Text-1663 on

To show what they can do performance wise I’ll suggest Run BTS or ON , for lyrics Either Tomorrow or Spring Day and lastly Save Me!

  7. I think it depends so much on the person’s music taste! So far the only song I’ve found that hits the spot for my prog-metal husband is Louder Than Bombs.

  8. This is so random because my best friend(metal lover)who used to fight with me back then by saying that kpop is trash, now says how he loves Butter by BTS,this guy even sings butter when we hang out, Butter out of any BTS song is the last song I would recommend to new people but if they like they like lol.

  9. Next_Grapefruit_3206 on

The great thing about BTS’ discography is that it lends itself to so many genres like she said, so I tend to ask the friend what music they are into first 😄
In the past it was Save Me, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Mic Drop but my sister was roped in via Indigo! It’s even harder now with such robust solos 🥲

  10. 1. Pied piper: pied piper is just that song, I feel like it’s a staple song in bts discography.

    2. Black swan: do I even need to explain??

    3. Jamais vu: definitely not one most people would pick but personally one of my favourite bts songs

Runners up for me would be save me, run BTS, spring day, dionysus, love maze

  11. ohsaycanyourock on

    – Black Swan – musically interesting and the video is gorgeous, I imagine it would break the bubblegum pop preconception a lot of people have
    – Life Goes On – just a really sweet song that I reckon would be a very accessible option to first-time listeners
    – Dionysus, but specifically a live performance – to show that BTS can go proper hard as well and that they can command a stage like no one else!

  12. Probably Rain, Embarrassed and 134340.

I just love them, ok. I think they’re not the kind of songs that people expect from K-pop. Love the jazzy, R&B vibe from these songs.

  13. Hyacinth_071307 on

This is subjective, like would you recommend something you like or something they might like. 😅🤭

If it depends to what I like, it would be Just One Day, Fire & Run(the HYYH one).

If it’s to based on what they might like then Dope, Mic Drop & Save Me.

But one thing is for sure.. They, as non kpop fan can be intrigued but it’s not good to expose them too much to the BU at first listen, at least…

  14. I was recommended Fake Love, Anpanman and Black Swan, so I’ll stick to these because look at me now 😝😂

Also, you had Make it right instrumental at your wedding? How beautiful 🥹💜

  15. 1) Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) – definitely showing them this, this song is such a banger and it’s hard to not like it when the lyrics and beat goes so hard

    2) Boy With Luv – a catchy and fun song, what else to say. I swear everytime I hear this song I get giggly and happy 😂

    3) Run BTS – my brother is not a fan of BTS, but he like this song so either this song or DNA 🔥

  16. I always recommend anpanman most people like that one, Silver spoon (baepsae), the third depends ifbtheu got dimples dimple otherwise dionysis.

  17. Substantial_Key_6734 on

It definitely depends on the person but if it’s more what are the universal songs I would pick to show someone :
    – pied piper
    – mikrokosmos
    – spring day

Also I would’ve said dimple but I don’t want to choose a song that not all members are in

But if someone does really like more up beat songs I would also put in mic drop, bapsae

Let’s be real it’s way too hard to choose !! When Spotify had that advertisement to choose your favorite 5 songs it was a nightmare for me to narrow down lol!

  18. thedisneyfangirl on

It really depends on the genre they like to listen to, but I’ll just go with BST, Airplane Pt. 2, and Black Swan, just because those are some of my favs.

  19. Magic Shop – I think the song embodies the essence of BTS. The song gives a feeling of comfort, safety and a sense of hope that things will get better. This has always been my go to song on my worst days.
Black Swan – Need I say more? The lyrics, choreography, and all of them looking like princes out of a fantasy novel. One of my favourite MVs ever.
Anpanman – Just the whole concept of the song and the way they have managed to reference a fictional character that most of us have grown up watching is just so witty and wholesome.

  20. It’s hard to pick only 3 but I’d say Spring Day, Run and Dope. I think showing them those 3 would show BTS’ versatility. With Spring Day, you’ve got a slower but very hard hitting ballad, with Dope you’ve got a track that shows off the incredible talent of the rap line, and in Run you’ve just got a perfect example of a great BTS title track.

  21. andromeda_prior on

If I was to introduce someone to them ON, Black Swan and Spring day/Mic drop (depending on that person’s taste).

If it was to show my preferences that would be 134340, Tomorrow and LGO

  22. 134340 for the chill vibes
Run BTS this just belongs in every gym/club/dance playlist idc
Run (alternative mix) my non kpop friends love this so much

  23. CarlottaMeloni on

Mic Drop – it’s the song and dance practice that hooked *me* onto BTS so this is the first

Pied Piper – the hook is crazy addictive

Blood Sweat and Tears – perfect combination of vocals and rap

  24. Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix), 134340 and Save Me. And if I could sneak in a solo to follow I’d play Daechwita.

  25. Adjust to their preference not yours. It is like suggesting spicy food but your friend dislike spicy food.

For me, suggest something with MV helps a lot for visual effect. For myself, I dislike BST when my friend first introduced me with BTS. So I asked her to give me slow songs since I like ballad. She gave me Butterfly, House of Cards and Save Me. And then I am super in love with Save Me until now.

  26. Necessary-Program841 on

I always play Anpanman, UGH!, and DNA. I feel like these are just fun songs yo get hype to, the music is bouncy for Anpanman and DNA and UGH! Just goes so hard lol

  27. Cecilie_Charlwood on

Black Swan – the performance and the story being told along with the stacked metaphors, it would show the locals BTS’s love for their craft

Baepsae – the essence of an upbeat BTS song with cheeky political meaings (honesty Dope and Am i Wrong would have worked too)

Spring Day – the heart and soul of all BTS songs, the most iconic and most loved by locals.

    ~~

If i had more options i would also include
Hip Hope Phile – the essential hip hop roots BTS has included and continues to be inspired by

Paradise – good melody, catchy chorus, a comfort song you can bop to.

UGH – powerful song with a powerful message, even without context and lyrics, i think people can enjoy listening to it.

  28. Born Singer: Probably a great intro to their story.

Film Out: Nothing else but their vocals.

Run BTS: It has everything — vocals, rap, dance.

  29. Well, I would select different songs based on who I’m introducing them to. But generally:

Burning Up (Fire) – It was the first BTS song I heard, and it instantly made me want to explore more of them. I randomly bought it for Beat Saber on my Oculus (VR headset), cause I knew BTS were popular & I wanted to see what the hype was about. I was SUPER impressed by them, especially when Namjoon drops in. I was like “wait a minute, this is BTS?” And of course this is Beat Saber so I’m like, one with the song & stuff so I was really able to absorb it. Maybe I’d make someone wear my Oculus and play Beat Saber to introduce this to them, so they’re forced to groove along to it uninterrupted haha.

Airplane pt.2 – I love the latin vibes of this one. It’s such a delicious song, and I seriously enjoy every members’ part. The MV is my favorite, too. Love the choreography and their outfits.

Blue & Grey – This whole song is such a treat. As soon as Suga’s part comes in, I’m in a trance for the rest of the song—it just keeps getting & better from there and I think that would prevent someone from getting “bored.” This song is an impossible skip for me. I’d probably introduce it via the MTV Unplugged video on YouTube.
